Happenings at Bald Blair
We hosted Milly McRae as part of her placement for her veterinary course at Wagga university - thank you Milly for all your hard work and best wishes for your studies.
Sean and Alec attended the Livestock handling school with Boyd Holden at Hernani and are putting their refined skills to work. They have also attended an Artificial Insemination school with NoBull’s Stephen Brown. We are looking forward to them using these new skills in October.
It was great to host Josh Bailey and Alex McLaughlin from AuctionsPlus team and Daniel Guest from Zoetis for a collaboration on animal health. We really appreciate the opportunity to be part of this project. Please keep an eye out for this one on the socials and in the next blog. It was a very cold morning to be out filming!
Season
The frosts are starting to hit, but we are receiving the easterly mist and a few showers so moisture is ok. The pastures Abbott sowed in February are coming along beautifully. We have been able to maintain ground cover and expect to start confinement feeding after the bull sale for our cows.
The Moisture probes are back in action - quick sim update and some tech savvy work by Abbott and Arthur - have us back online with the latest moisture levels at Bald Blair and Gatwood - plus another rain gauge. So we now have a rain gauge for the Pinnacle, Fitzroys, workshop and homestead - 4 comparisons for Bald Blair rainfall!
Market
Auctions Plus have a new A+ Bloodlines option - if you are selling stock by Bald Blair bloodlines we can verify and endorse them. The verified badge appears on your lots. Buyers can search by bloodlines and we can share the listing with our network and support your promotions. If you are selling commercial stock through AuctionsPlus, please ask your agent to claim Bald Blair genetics at listing time. Water
We are still waiting on the bore drillers and have had to apply again to Water NSW as the site is different to our original request.
Sheep
We are still finishing lambs. Shearing completed in one day - a few less sheep this year!
Weeds
The Knodding Thistles are no longer rosettes and the spray kits are going back on the vehicles asap.
Fencing
Huge thanks to Taylor and Nash McDonald and Mel for coming over for a day to put up a couple of confinement feeding fence/troughs. Exceptional efficiency and craftsmanship - they are the golden pliers for a reason!
Farm Safety
The Farmsafe Australia NSW State Forum on Friday, 17 July, is a one-day free event bringing together farmers, industry leaders, researchers and safety advocates to explore the real safety challenges facing Australian agriculture. Through honest conversations and powerful storytelling, the forum highlights lived experiences from across the sector; the near misses, hard lessons and practical changes that can make a difference on farm.
Rather than focusing on compliance alone, the event is designed to spark relatable discussions that encourage safer decision-making and stronger safety culture across farming communities. Attendees will hear from a range of speakers sharing practical insights, innovative ideas and simple ways to improve safety outcomes in everyday agricultural work and life. Regeneration
Proagtive is proud to host ‘Regeneration’ at Goonoo Goonoo Station, Tamworth, on Thursday 6 August 2026.
Proagtive’s role in succession planning extends far beyond servicing the families who engage in their process. They advocate for family harmony, business continuity and ultimately to keep Australian farm ownership in the safe hands of Australian farming families.
Being the extremely complex topic that it is, the motivation behind this event is to break down the different aspects of succession planning, and for participants of ‘Regeneration’ to leave feeling clear about what succession planning is, what they can expect from engaging in a facilitated process, and what is the first step to take in achieving holistic, whole-family goals.
Participants will be guided through a life-like case study and will hear from Australia’s best succession planning practitioners.
Speakers include:
· Grace Brennan - MC - Founder, Buy from the Bush
· Isobel Knight - Owner and founder, Proagtive
· Jason Misso - Owner and founder, Misso Wealth Management
· Petrea King - Founder, Quest for Life Foundation
· Mark Everingham - Managing Director, Personal Risk Professionals Insurance Brokers
· Patrick Ellwood - Owner and founder, Clover Law
Ticket price includes Morning Tea, Lunch and Afternoon Tea, as well as the opportunity to network and connect with Proagtive Staff, Succession Planning Practitioners, and other event participants.
