The Boundary Rider's Report November 2025
The Boundary Rider’s Report November 2025
Welcome to the Bald Blair Angus Boundary Rider’s Report for November 2025.
US Bulls and Battleships Tour,
What a trip, 10 days and a few thousand miles.
Started off with a quick visit to Muscle Beach Venice, LA and a workout. The next day off to Golds Gym and another workout. Took the rest of the trip to get over it.
Went to World West Sires, Billings Montana. Great team of people, very willing to share some insight on many leading sires. Saw Basin Keystone, great looking Bull. Saw Basin True Balance as well, great temperament.
Went to ALTA/Genex sire centres, Montana. Again a very good team of people willing to share some insight on another lot of leading sires. Saw Poss Remington, a bull had a lot of presence. He has been used in the 2025 Breeding program here at Bald Blair.
Had the opportunity to visit Basin Angus, Montana. Doug Stevenson was very gratuitous with his time and shared some great insight with us on the Basin Angus operation. Saw great lines of heifers.
Had a look around winter calving pens; it was amazing to see how American Ranchers handle winter calving, with cows going into calving barns for the first 24 hours of their lives. Hay being made and stored for winter, everywhere we went. Saw Basin Jefferson, and bull with amazing temperament and a ton of capacity. We were able to see Basin True Value 3017, a bull also used in this year's AI program at one of the AI centres.
Went to Origen AI Centre, also Montana. Again, great opportunity to visit and inspect another group of leading sires also.
Had an opportunity to visit TD Angus Ranch; formerly, Bill Rishells. Great to see the next generation of bulls coming out of this older herd. The development of the whole operation is impressive. Saw the next generation of bulls and heifers. Also saw females just recently sold, impressive.
After a few days of travel, we then visited Danny Poss; Poss Angus Ranch. Great to spend time with Danny, and gain insight into the Poss Angus breeding programme. Saw a number of Poss bulls on our travels, including Poss Remington. There was a very impressive lineup of the next generation of young bulls and heifers, just bred. Had an opportunity to inspect lines of proven breeders in the paddock in the Poss Angus Herd. They looked great.
Left De Moines Iowa, just as the first major cold front came through. It got very cold very quickly, obviously the Northern Hemisphere Winter fast approaching. Really appreciated the opportunity to travel with my son, Abbott, Dick Whale and Peter Grieve. I am not sure the hire car could have been any smaller, not so squeezy. Within 12 hours we arrived in Honolulu, significantly warmer. Next day we had the opportunity to tick off a bucket list item with a 7 hour visit to the WWII Pearl Harbour Memorial, on US Veterans day, our Remembrance Day in Australia. Visited USS Missouri, the ship made famous by the signing of the Treaty with the Japanese after the Pacific Campaign ended. Many poignant comments on and around these Memorials; great to see, and great to share with my son.

Bull Sale Save the date for the Bald Blair Angus Bull Sale: 1pm Tuesday, 4th August 2026
https://www.angusaustralia.com.au/event/bald-blair-angus-2026-bull-sale
Our aim is to provide our clients with quality bulls that provide long-term value with proven genetics.
We have received some great feedback on how the 2025 bull sale team is going in their new environments.
Cattle
AI and Embryo program complete - Thank you Tom Cleaver, Sam Savage, Abbott and Arthur for assisting thru this year's breeding programme. Thankyou Nathan and your team from Bovine Breeders for your coordination, help and supply of semen. Cover sires are out and will continue to be working. The bulls are handling the conditions well.
Sheep
Lamb marking is done and dusted for another year. We are very happy with our lambing percentages, considering the number of foxes and look forward to seeing the lambs continue to grow on their mothers until weaning in January.

Weeds
Knodding thistles are still going strong and blackberries are coming along with a vengeance! Great rain, great temperatures, warm soil, perfect conditions for weeds
Pastures
Our high performance and native pastures have responded well to the recent rain and fertiliser. We are hard pressed to keep the stocking density up to them as we have cover sires out with different cow mobs. However once the bulls come back in and we return to our regular rotational grazing we will hopefully utilise our pastures to their full potential.
